Parking at a key council building will be severely restricted this week after caravans and other vehicles moved onto the site without permission.
An unauthorised encampment in the car park at Forde House means spaces will be limited, although the council has confirmed that all services are continuing to operate as normal.
The reception at Forde House will remain open for anyone with a pre-booked appointment. Visitors are being advised to use public transport, walk or cycle where possible, or to park at one of the town’s other car parks and walk to the building.
Limited parking will be available for people with mobility issues.
Anyone needing to arrange an appointment with a council service is asked to call 01626 361101 between 8.30am and 5pm, Monday to Thursday, and 8.30am to 4.30pm on Friday.
The authority said it is following its standard legal processes, as it would for any unauthorised encampment. More information about how such situations are managed is available on its website at https://orlo.uk/GGaGR.
The disruption has also led to changes to a scheduled committee meeting.
The Special Overview and Scrutiny Committee meeting due to take place on Tuesday, March 3 has been moved to a new venue and will begin later than originally planned.
The meeting will now start at 11.15am and will be held at Richard Newton Hall, Higher Buckeridge Road, Teignmouth, TQ14 8QP.
The council said it will not be possible to livestream the meeting from the new venue and apologised for any inconvenience. Decision notices will be published on its website as soon as possible after the meeting concludes.
Anyone planning to attend in person has been advised that seating is limited and spaces will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
