This week another attack targeting two members of the Jewish community took place in London. Torbay Council condemns any acts of hate or violence directed at any community and will continue to work with our Safer Torbay partners to promote tolerant, inclusive and resilient communities.
We are in regular contact with local police to understand any risks and make sure that our communities are protected. We are aware that the Diverse Communities Team of Devon and Cornwall Police continue to reach out to offer advance and reassurance and are keen to listen to any concerns that people may have.
To report a hate crime please contact 101 (or 999 in an emergency), you can also report any information or intelligence via the Partnership Intelligence Portal.
Councillor David Thomas, Leader of Torbay Council, said: “Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the troubling events that unfolded in London this week. We know that this will be unsettling and upsetting for many people, especially our Jewish community, who have suffered another targeted act of violence. Our thoughts are with those affected by this, in London, across our country and here in Torbay.
“We are committed to creating a Bay where everyone feels safe, valued and supported, regardless of their background, faith or identity. Please look out for each other and treat each other with respect. Simple acts of kindness and understanding can mean a lot and make a big difference.”
