Community groups with stories to tell are being encouraged to step into the spotlight as a North Devon museum begins planning its 2027 exhibition programme.
The Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon is inviting local groups and organisations to apply for a place in its Community Gallery, following the success of a similar initiative last year. The museum is looking for projects, anniversaries, celebrations and local stories that reflect the area’s heritage and communities.
Previous exhibitions have included a celebration of the Explorer’s Create programme from environmental charity Earth Action North Devon and a display by the Kings Nympton Historical Society. The gallery is currently hosting an exhibition marking the 60th anniversary of Resurgence magazine.
The museum has also introduced a new Community Corridor, an informal exhibition space for photographs and other two-dimensional displays. The first exhibition in the space showcases the work of the Barnstaple and District Soroptimists.
Alison Mills, director of the Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon, said: “North Devon is full of remarkable stories, and we want to help bring them to life.
“We encourage local groups and organisations to share milestones, projects, and hidden histories that deserve recognition.
“By working together, we can celebrate our shared heritage and ensure the museum reflects the rich diversity and character of our communities.”
Groups interested in taking part are asked to complete an application form available on the museum’s website. The deadline for submissions is 5pm on Sunday, July 12. Successful applicants will receive support throughout the planning, installation and promotion of their exhibition.
