Viral Korean food brand BUNSIK heads to Plymouth with biggest UK restaurant

A Korean street food chain known for its viral corndogs is preparing to open its biggest UK restaurant yet, bringing its first Devon venue to Plymouth city centre.

BUNSIK will open its latest restaurant at 134 Armada Way on Friday, July 3, marking the brand’s first location in Devon and its 13th across the UK. The opening coincides with the ongoing regeneration of Armada Way, which officially reopens on Saturday, July 4 following major improvement works.

The restaurant occupies around 2,000 square feet and will provide seating for approximately 45 diners across two floors, alongside takeaway and delivery services.

To mark the opening, the restaurant will offer a free Korean corndog to the first 100 customers on Friday, July 3, together with 50 per cent off all corndogs. The same offers will return on Saturday, July 4, before customers can receive 50 per cent off Korean fried chicken on Sunday, July 5.

The menu will include Korean corndogs with mozzarella and chicken fillings, tteokbokki, kimbap, Korean fried chicken and cup bap rice bowls. Halal meat is used throughout the menu and vegetarian options are also available.

Founded in 2021, BUNSIK has expanded across the UK following openings in cities including Bristol and Southampton.

Founder Jae Cho said: “Everyone at BUNSIK is incredibly excited to be bringing the brand to Plymouth and opening our first restaurant in Devon.

“We have been looking for the right location in the city and Armada Way felt like the perfect fit.

“The transformation taking place in the city centre makes this a particularly exciting moment to join Plymouth’s food scene, and we are looking forward to welcoming everyone through our doors.”

The Plymouth restaurant will be operated by franchise partner ZK Group, which already operates neighbouring CUPP Bubble Tea and German Doner Kebab on Armada Way.

Zubari Ali, director of ZK Group, said: “Having already established two businesses on Armada Way, we have seen first-hand the strength and potential of this part of the city centre.

“BUNSIK brings a fresh and distinctive concept to our growing portfolio, and we believe it will resonate strongly with Plymouth’s residents, students, shoppers and visitors.

“We look forward to building on our commitment to the area and continuing to play an active role in the local community.”

The opening comes as Armada Way prepares to officially reopen following a regeneration programme that has transformed one of Plymouth’s main city centre routes.
