A teenager has appeared before magistrates after being charged with a string of offences as police step up efforts to tackle persistent crime and anti-social behaviour, while detectives continue investigating a series of motorcycle thefts across South Devon.
Devon and Cornwall Police said a 16-year-old boy appeared before Exeter Magistrates’ Court after being charged with 12 offences and a further nine alleged breaches of a youth anti-social behaviour civil injunction.
The court granted the teenager bail with conditions. These include exclusions from the town centres of Teignmouth, Dawlish and Newton Abbot, electronic tagging, a curfew and a requirement to engage with the Youth Justice Service.
The update comes after what police described as multiple incidents of crime and anti-social behaviour in Teignmouth and Dawlish over recent months.
Police also confirmed arrests have been made in connection with a recent series of motorcycle thefts in Shaldon, Teignmouth, Bishopsteignton, Newton Abbot and Heathfield.
Enquiries into those thefts are ongoing.
In a statement, Teignmouth and Dawlish Police said: “We are very aware of the frustrations in the community around youth ASB, and want to reassure the public that the Neighbourhood Policing Team are pursuing persistent offenders to make our towns safer.
“We would urge residents to continue reporting via 999 if there is an immediate risk or a crime is ongoing, or via 101 or online.”
